Pet Tricks for Summer Fun-image

Here at Windsong Place Apartments in Williamsville, NY, we are happy to be a pet-friendly community — it’s just one of the amenities we provide for our residents. People may think that they “can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” but that’s actually false! In fact, adult dogs, for example, may amaze you by how much easier to train they are than pups . In today’s post, we are sharing some tips for teaching your pet tricks!   Teach your dog to roll over.   While this may seem to be a basic trick, it never fails to delight and is one of the easier tricks to teach. Follow the directions from The American Kennel Club and soon your dog will be rolling over on command.   Teach your dog to stand on hind legs. This is a fun trick that you can achieve if you have the patience to put in the effort for it! It’ll be a great sight to see for small, large, or medium-sized animals. Learn how to train your dog to stand on hind legs to give them a bit of a leg-up on life this month!   Teach your cat a handshake. It’s common to see a dog give a handshake, but it’s a bit less common with cats! In fact, teaching cats special tricks can seem like a new concept in and of itself, as they’re often seen as untrainable or aloof. But your cat can pick up new tricks with some simple training from you. Check out the Cat School Training courses available, including giving handshakes, walking on a leash, jumping through a hoop, and more. Follow them on Instagram for more. Here are a few classic summer-themed books to check out.   A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith “The beloved American classic about a young girl's coming-of-age at the turn of the century, Betty Smith's A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a poignant and moving tale filled with compassion and cruelty, laughter and heartache, crowded with life and people and incident. The story of young, sensitive, and idealistic Francie Nolan and her bittersweet formative years in the slums of Williamsburg has enchanted and inspired millions of readers for more than sixty years.”   To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee “The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic.”   Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson “It's late summer 1793, and the streets of Philadelphia are abuzz with mosquitoes and rumors of fever. Have a Spa Day at Your Windsong Place Apartment-image

Take a spring break this month by treating yourself to a spa day! This week we’re sharing some ideas for making your Windsong Place apartment an at-home spa you can relax in, any day of the month.   Prepare your apartment. Make sure your apartment is clean and tidy. It’s hard to relax in an environment with clutter or unpleasant smells, so set aside some time this week to clean your apartment. Give each thing in your place a home, tucked out of sight or displayed nicely. Throw away old food and take out your trash. Do your laundry and wash your sheets so you can have something comfortable to cozy up in later.   Create a soothing environment. In addition to cleaning, you can do a lot to simulate the experience you might get at a spa in your apartment. One simple way is by using a diffuser to indulge in your favorite soothing scents . Then you can turn down the lights, create your perfect bath , put on some calm music, and bask in your homemade oasis.   Take care of your body. Make sure you can feel good physically by getting a good night’s rest before your in-apartment spa day. Consider starting your break with a relaxing massage . Some massage therapists will even come to your home. Try these yoga poses for stress so you can stretch your muscles and get ready for your soothing bath. And of course, don’t forget the facial ! You can make your own facial or buy one that works best for your skin type. Facials are good to do at night, so eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water throughout the day so you can then focus on relaxing.   Treat yourself with your favorites. Now is the time for some self-care, so pamper yourself with your favorite drink or sweet. Of course, remember that binging won’t help you feel better, so be mindful of your portions so you can really savor your indulgences. You can also make your break a special one by disconnecting from the world and turning off your electronics. Then entertain yourself with a hobby, craft, book, or movie you’ve been meaning to get to. All these little things will add up to a relaxing mini spring break right here in Williamsville, NY.   We hope you enjoy these tips for creating a spa day at your apartment. What else would you add to make your at-home pampering complete? Let us know in the comments.
