Tips for Your New Gym Workout-image

A few months ago we featured a post about a new addition to our fitness center, a Peloton bike . We know, however, that biking isn’t for everyone, so we want to follow up with a suggested routine you may want to try out in the Windsong Place Apartments fitness center, weight room, or your favorite gym in the Williamsville, NY area.  Did you make a resolution at the beginning of the year to make fitness a priority? Sometimes, it can be challenging to maintain a routine all year long. We’re halfway through the year now, so we thought a pep talk would be in order, but more than that, we’ve got some advice from TheoFit to help keep fitness in the forefront. Using TheoFit’s weekly gym routine for beginners , a four-week program to help you jumpstart your journey into getting fit, you’ll be able to build a foundation that will help you succeed in any future fitness goals. While the guide itself is pretty self-explanatory and equipped with detailed videos of each exercise, we wanted to highlight a few of TheoFit’s final tips to consider while following this guide.  Remember that These Exercises Should Be Hard Above all else, it’s important to remember that this workout routine should be challenging for you. If it wasn’t, how in the world could it help you become more fit? When you start to get used to a specific weight and you can complete all three sets with relative ease, it probably means it’s time to increase the weight. That’s one of the best parts about this workout routine: you can keep doing it virtually forever by continually increasing weight!  Don’t Skip Any Days  It’s crucial that you don’t take any days off, especially in the first four weeks of your fitness goals. Even though there are only five days listed on this guide, TheoFit suggests that even on your “rest days,” you should be doing a few exercises like push-ups or burpees and then going on a brisk walk. If you create a habit of setting aside time every day to exercise, it will help you get in the mindset that fitness is about making changes to your everyday life, and not just to the days you want. Stay Off Your Phone  Believe it or not, staying off your phone is a pretty important element to making fitness gains. You may need to use the timer on your phone, however. If that’s the case, then put it on airplane mode and use only the functions you need to, to enhance your workout. When you have other apps open or are constantly checking your messages, it destroys your intensity level and draws out your workout. Cycle Your Way to Health at Windsong Place Apartments-image

When was the last time you visited our fitness center here at Windsong Place Apartments? If it’s been awhile, you may have missed out on the newest addition to our array of fitness equipment. We are now featuring a Peloton Bike! That’s right, Peloton Bikes have found a home right here at Windsong Place Apartments in Williamsville, NY. We are excited to introduce these remarkable high-tech studio cycles at the fitness center. The Peloton Bike comes equipped with a 22” HD touchscreen which allows you to immerse yourself into the cycling experience, all on a schedule that works for you. Choose from 14 daily live classes select one of the 8,000+ on-demand classes for your workout that you can do anytime. Class times range from 5 to 120 minutes. One of the features about the Peloton Bike that we know you’ll love includes tracking your progress — which provides detailed performance metrics to help you stay on track with your fitness program. Not only that, finding your favorite music genre, class type, and a NYC instructor is accomplished with a tap of the screen, so adjust all of them depending on what you’re in the mood for as you cycle. We are excited for our residents to try out our Peloton Bike. How do you plan on incorporating cycling into your fitness routine? Here are four pointers to help you get started from  Muscle & Fitness . Foot position:  If your bike has toe cages and straps, make sure the ball of your foot is aligned over the center of the pedal. This is the firmest, widest part of your foot and the most efficient and comfortable position. If you’re clipping in with bike shoes, make sure that the cleats are positioned so the ball of your foot is on the center of the pedal. Saddle height:  You can eyeball the saddle so it comes to about hip height, but a better way to tell if you’re at the right position is to get on the bike and rotate the pedals until one leg reaches the bottom of the pedal stroke. That leg should have about a 25- to 35-degree bend at the knee. Saddle  fore /Aft position:  Sitting on the saddle, place your hands on the front handlebars; keep the pedals level. Look down: Your kneecap should be directly above the center of the pedal; adjust saddle accordingly to get there. Handlebar height:  Align handlebars close to seat height to limit the strain on your neck and back. Of course, if the bike is being used when you arrive, our fitness center has plenty of other options to use too! We hope you have the opportunity to get in and workout this month. Keeping Your Cool When Temperatures Soar in WNY-image

At Windsong Place Apartments, we believe that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the best ways to create a happy lifestyle. Taking care of yourself in the summer heat is an important part of staying healthy. This week, we hope you follow these suggestions for keeping your cool when Western New York temperatures soar and you must be out and about in Williamsville this month.      Hydrate Drinking lots of water has many benefits for your health, but one large reason to hydrate during the summer is so you can cool down. Filling your body with cooling fluids is a great way to reduce your body temperature and keep it cool. Your body has an internal temperature gauge that triggers body functions like sweating. Sweating uses water, so it’s important to keep that tank filled up so your body can cool itself down!   Ice your pulses. Greatist encourages you to “ pamper your pulses ” if you need to cool down fast. Invest in a few ice packs if you get hot easily and apply them to your pulse areas to decrease your body temperature and relax the heart rate quickly.   Change your sheets. Having your sleep area clean, fresh, and ready for a cool night is important, especially if your body tends to heat up easily! Change your thicker flannel sheets for those that help wick away sweat. Cooler sheets like linen, organic cotton, or even bamboo sheets can help you stay cool because they are breathable and soft.   Wear a Hat. Keeping the sun’s rays away will reduce your chance of getting a sunburn (which translates into being overheated). Make sure you wear sunscreen too.   Hit the Pool What better way to cool off than by soaking yourself with water? Spending a day at the pool on a sweltering day is a good way to stave off the heat. Head on over to our saltwater pool, just one of the amenities we provide for members of our apartment community. Make sure you prepare for a day at the pool by packing sunscreen, the right clothes, and an emergency first-aid kid (just in case).   Do you have good ways to beat the heat? Have a Spa Day at Your Windsong Place Apartment-image

  Take a spring break this month by treating yourself to a spa day! This week we’re sharing some ideas for making your Windsong Place apartment an at-home spa you can relax in, any day of the month.   Prepare your apartment. Make sure your apartment is clean and tidy. It’s hard to relax in an environment with clutter or unpleasant smells, so set aside some time this week to clean your apartment. Give each thing in your place a home, tucked out of sight or displayed nicely. Throw away old food and take out your trash. Do your laundry and wash your sheets so you can have something comfortable to cozy up in later.   Create a soothing environment. In addition to cleaning, you can do a lot to simulate the experience you might get at a spa in your apartment. One simple way is by using a diffuser to indulge in your favorite soothing scents . Then you can turn down the lights, create your perfect bath , put on some calm music, and bask in your homemade oasis.   Take care of your body. Make sure you can feel good physically by getting a good night’s rest before your in-apartment spa day. Consider starting your break with a relaxing massage . Some massage therapists will even come to your home. Try these yoga poses for stress so you can stretch your muscles and get ready for your soothing bath. And of course, don’t forget the facial ! You can make your own facial or buy one that works best for your skin type. Facials are good to do at night, so eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water throughout the day so you can then focus on relaxing.   Treat yourself with your favorites. Now is the time for some self-care, so pamper yourself with your favorite drink or sweet. Of course, remember that binging won’t help you feel better, so be mindful of your portions so you can really savor your indulgences. You can also make your break a special one by disconnecting from the world and turning off your electronics. Then entertain yourself with a hobby, craft, book, or movie you’ve been meaning to get to.
